Badges
I have a badge maker, and as a result we have badges. The Alexander Karensky Appreciation Society also has them. Badge makers are good, since they prevent this happening when you take a break from working.

Finish article, get up, make tea. Flick through War and Peace. Contemplate creating Denisov fan club. Flick through more War and Peace. Suddenly realise why you like Denisov. Swear under breath. Contemplate finding lists and crossing things out, but finish tea and resume work. Get up, find list and cross things out. Resume work, praying for no similar epiphanies about Gawain.

And it's not worth it just to have that nagging familiarity assuaged.

Making badges provokes none of the same. Which is nice.
